We built 30 new homes on the sites of a former older people's housing scheme at Irving Close in Staple Hill and the former garages in nearby James Road. The homes are a mixture of one and two bedroom flats, two and three bedroom houses plus a number of one bedroom bungalows.
Location: Staple Hill
Number of new properties: 30
Start on site: May 2016
Completed: September 2017
Customers have started moving into our new homes in Staple Hill after the properties were completed last week.
We took ownership of the 25 new homes at Irving Close at the end of the week and immediately started handing the keys over to the excited new tenants of the 19 rental properties. The other six homes are shared properties and sold out in a matter of hours earlier in the summer.
The first customers started moving in on Friday after signing their tenancy agreements earlier in the day.
The new homes have been built on the site of our former Irving Close independent living scheme which we closed three years ago, following a review which concluded they were no longer suitable. We’ve also redeveloped a garage block in nearby James Road as part of this project and built five new bungalows on this site, which were completed earlier in the year.
Development Officer Shane Smith said: “The build has gone really well. We’ve had some issues to overcome, such as a steep slope at the back of the site which backs onto the Bristol – Bath cyclepath that we had to stabilise but those are the sorts of things we do.
“The homes are great quality, spacious places to live and I’m sure the people who have moved in will love them.”
The homes have been built in partnership with United Living, who we are now working with to build 21 new homes in Downend on two sites in Beaufort Road and Blackhorse Lane. It’s part of our plans to expand our development programme which aims to deliver 500 new homes over the next two years.
