Our expanding homebuilding programme has taken another step forward after we received permission to build 21 new homes in Downend.
The local landlord has received the go-ahead to build the homes, spread across two sites in Beaufort Road and Blackhorse Lane and has now appointed United Living to carry out the work. Sixteen homes will be built in Beaufort Road on the site of a former rank of garages. In Blackhorse Lane, we'll be building five homes on the site of a bungalow and garage. The development is being part-funded with £600,000 of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Development Officer Shane Smith said: “House prices in South Gloucestershire are more than nine times the average income so there is huge demand for genuinely affordable homes. It’s great news for people in Downend looking for somewhere affordable to live that our plans have been approved. It is a fantastic location and we will be selling seven of the homes through our shared ownership scheme so there will be a chance for people looking to buy their first home to take their first step on the housing ladder.
“We’re delighted to be working with United Living again to deliver these new homes. We’re currently working with them to build 30 homes in Staple Hill, the first of which are already completed and we’re looking forward to getting started shortly on this site.”
After completing 131 new homes in 2016-17, we plan to build 235 homes in 2017-18 and increase this further the following year to 300. These new homes in Downend are due to be completed by summer 2018. Details of the shared ownership homes will be available on the sales page.
