Apprentice Luke does the double

luke

Luke won the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award and the overall Bristol and Bath Apprentice of the Year. The 18-year-old, beat off tough competition from apprentices at Crest Nicholson and Helm Construction at a glamorous awards ceremony at the Bristol Marriott Hotel on Wednesday evening.

But Luke wasn’t able to pick up his awards, as he’s currently in the Philippines working with a charity to improve the lives of families living on a dump site. So in his absence his supervisor Leigh Hatherall took to the stage to pick up his awards on his behalf.

Despite being on the other side of the world, he followed the awards ceremony through our Twitter feed. And on hearing he’d won tweeted: “Wooooooooooooo can't believe it I'm so happy.”

From being the face of Merlin’s apprentice recruitment campaign, to being involved in the Philippines Community Project, Luke has experienced things he never imagined when he applied for his apprenticeship.

Luke was the star in our day in the life of an apprentice film, which featured recently as part of the new apprentice recruitment campaign. He also attended our recruitment event earlier this year to talk to potential apprentices.

Merlin’s Learning and Development Co-ordinator Vicky James who went to event said: "It was an amazing night and I was surprised and happy to see how much support there is for apprenticeships.  Luke is setting a great example for our other apprentices and what can be achieved, whilst raising the profile of the business and our apprenticeship programme."

Merlin were also a finalist in the Apprenticeship Development Award
