Carols fill the air as new homes take shape

The Christmas Tree at Irving Close

The choir at Irving Close It wasn’t a silent night for residents living close to the site of Merlin’s new homes in Staple Hill on Monday as the sound of carols filled the air.

People neighbouring the two construction sites in Irving Close and James Road were invited to the carol concert by Merlin and its contractors United Living who are building the new homes. The residents tucked into mince pies as they enjoyed the carols, under the lights of the Christmas tree.

Development Officer Shane Smith said: “It was a really lovely event. We had around 40 local residents come along and enjoy the choir singing carols.

“It was a way of us saying thank you for their patience while the building work is going on.”

We’re building 25 new homes on the site for the former supported housing scheme in Irving Close and a further five homes in nearby James Road where we used to have a rank of garages. The homes will be a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership homes.

“The building work is going well,” Shane added. “It’s all on target and we’re aiming to have all the new homes completed in July next year.”
