Carpenters teach children tools of the trade

Our carpenters went back to school recently to teach local children the tools of the trade. They showed children from Parkwall School in Cadbury Health, and Our Lady of Lourdes School in Kingswood, how to build bird boxes.

A small team from Merlin visited the two schools in a bid to inspire pupils to start thinking about what they’d like to do when they grow up, and give them some ideas for careers worth exploring.

Merlin’s Marketing and Business Development Assistant Karen Thatcher said: “With so many career options for young people to choose from, we want to show that hands-on skills such as carpentry, still offer promising professions.

“As an organisation that employs over 100 carpenters, bricklayers, plasterers, plumbers, electricians, roofers, and painters and decorators, we’re keen for young people to see just how valuable these trades are, and perhaps even inspire them to pursue one as a fulfilling career.

“We’d love to think that some of them may join us in the future – perhaps even as part of our apprenticeship scheme.”
