Merlin seeks to build new homes in Downend

We've submitted plans to build 16 new homes on the site of a former garage block in Downend.

If approved, the plans would see the housing association build 12 flats and four houses for affordable rent and shared ownership on the land in Beaufort Road. The garages have already been demolished in preparation for the new homes.

At the same time we're also seeking approval to demolish a bungalow and garage in Blackhorse Lane and build five new homes in their place.

Development Manager Peter Crouch said: “We’re pleased to have submitted plans for the redevelopment of these two sites. With so much demand for affordable housing in South Gloucestershire, it makes perfect sense to make the best use of our land in this way by providing new, quality rented and shared ownership homes.”

Earlier in the year we held a consultation event with local residents to give them the chance to see the plans for themselves and comment on them. You can view the plans on South Gloucestershire Council's website -
