Our £20m project to refurbish 1,500 homes in South Gloucestershire has completed its 500th property.
Since 2012 we've been installing new external wall insulation to properties across the area over the past few years. Now the project has reached a significant milestone with the completion of work at the 500th property. Last week the occupants, Sandra and Malcolm Garland, welcomed the project team to have a look at their finished home.
Sandra said: “The finished house looks amazing. I pull up in front of the house in my car every day and I can’t believe how good it looks. It looks like a brand new house – it’s got real kerb appeal.
“It’s like a thermos flask, it keeps the heat in in the winter and keeps the house cool in the summer. It’s already cooler now but it’ll be in the winter that we really notice it.”
Special Projects Manager Mark Sherwood said: “It’s great to hear such positive feedback from customers like Mr and Mrs Garland whose homes have been refurbished and are seeing a real difference to their lives. We’re hearing from other customers that they’ve spent less on their energy bills during the winter because their homes are so much warmer now.
“We’re delighted to have completed work to improve the energy efficiency of our 500th non-traditional home. By giving each home a facelift it not only benefits the customers living in them, it benefits the whole community, by making the streets look more attractive. Now we’re looking ahead to start work the next homes to benefit from this work.”
We're now preparing to start work on the next phase of the project, which will involve refurbishments to 144 homes, mostly in the Thornbury and Filton areas.
