Project aims to breathe new life into old garages

We’re investing £100,000 over the next three months to refurbish and improve 54 garages.

Work is already underway at two of the garage blocks at Lees Hill in Kingswood and Parsons Avenue in Little Stoke carrying out refurbishment works. The work, being led by the contracting services team, involves installing new roofs, garage doors and guttering and decorating them. Both sites are currently fenced off while the work takes place.

Once work is completed at these two sites, we’ll be carrying out similar work to 11 garages at Tiberton in Kingswood and 12 garages at Chessell Avenue in Pilning. Improving the quality of the garages will extend their lifespan and hopefully make them more attractive to would-be renters.

As part of the project we will also be demolishing three run-down garages in Newton Road, Cadbury Heath at the rear of Parkwall Road, and leaving the land as parking spaces.

All of the work is due to be completed by the end of March. We’ll be investing more money in refurbishing garages in the next financial year and are currently in the process of drawing up a plan for 2017-18.
