16 reasons why housing just got more affordable in Filton

Staff and customers celebrate the opening of the new homes at Roycroft Road

Customers of new affordable homes have cut the red ribbon to celebrate the official opening of their new homes.

Merlin has invested £2m to redevelop its former older people’s housing scheme in Roycroft Road, Filton into 16 modern, affordable homes. Last week the housing association invited customers, stakeholders and staff to a tea party to mark the completion of the development.

The development was a mix of two and three bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom flats, all with good links to local shops, schools and leisure facilities.

Development Officer Shane Smith said: “It was great to see so many of the customers at the event and hear how well they are getting on in their new homes. We managed to avoid most of the rain and everyone had a great time.

“There are so many people in need of affordable housing in the area and as a housing association we’re committed to building as many new homes as we can to tackle this issue. These homes, and the 270 we’re currently building, will make a big difference to those people.”

The Roycroft Road development was financed in part with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency. By 2019 Merlin aims to be building 300 new homes every year.
