First shared ownership home reserved at Whitchurch development

The first of our latest shared ownership homes to go on sale has been reserved within 48 hours.

We’re currently selling our first three shared ownership homes at White Church Court in Whitchurch, just to the south of Bristol and within a short drive of the city centre and to nearby Bath. The three shared ownership homes are part of 40 we’re building on site with Barratts, and are ready for their new owners to move in.

Sales Manager Jon Wakefield said: “We know there’s a real need for more affordable housing right across the area and shared ownership is a great, affordable way for people to buy their first home. Average house prices locally are more than ten times average incomes according to research from the National Housing Federation but buying a share of a home and paying rent on the rest is often cheaper than buying outright and you need a much smaller deposit.

“These homes are just six miles from the centre of Bristol, have great transport links to the wider area and plenty of amenities nearby. We were expected lots of interest and it’s no surprise that the first home has already been reserved.”

Of the 40 homes we're building on this site, 11 will be sold through shared ownership, with the remaining 29 rented out. And the first customers moved into their new rental homes earlier in the week. We also recently completed the first homes at our adjoining development site in Whitchurch with Bellway. We’re building 39 new affordable properties at The Bridles.

All of the remaining homes at White Church Court and The Bridles will be a mixture of social rent and shared ownership and are due to be completed in phases between now and the end of 2019. The homes form part of our ambition to deliver 14,000 new homes over the next ten years.
