Residents living close to building sites in Coalpit Heath and Iron Acton have enjoyed a series of free events over the past three weeks which have given them the chance to have a close encounter with local wildlife.
We’ve begun building 72 homes on several sites across the two villages as part of our development programme, and this week we've demolished the last of the 44 former properties. Our contractors Lovell got underway with the building work earlier in the summer and during the start of this month, we've teamed up to hold garden fetes in the villages. The fetes were a way of thanking local people for their patience whilst the homes are built. Visitors could come face-to-face with hedgehogs, slow worms, toads and more, while having their face painted and tucking into cake.
The final event took place in Iron Acton this week, where we're building 27 homes in Algars Drive, Chilwood Close and Nibley Lane.
Merlin Customer Liaison Officer Sarah Durbin said: “We have had great fun putting on these events for the benefit of our customers and neighbours living close to the areas where we’re building our new homes. It’s been great running the garden fetes with Lovell; the kids have loved the bugs, bats and balloons. And hopefully we’ve given some of them the gardening bug with the planting workshops we’ve run at the fetes.”
The new homes will be available to rent and to buy through shared ownership. Work is due to be completed in phases throughout 2018.
