Residents recovering from a stay in hospital will receive more support thanks to a new partnership.
Merlin Housing Society and the Red Cross have teamed up to offer a joined-up service to help Merlin residents get back on their feet after being discharged from hospital. From April, any Merlin residents who use the Red Cross’s Home from Hospital Service will also be referred to the society’s short-term response service as well.
Amanda March, Short Term Response Co-ordinator at Merlin said: “We’re delighted to have entered into this partnership with the Red Cross, which will provide more help to residents at a time when they may feel vulnerable.
“When a resident comes out of hospital, Red Cross volunteers can help residents with practical tasks like going shopping and collecting prescriptions, while our staff can offer housing-related support, by helping them to maintain their tenancy or arranging any adaptations to their home.
“And as well as helping residents re-adjust to life back at home, our two services help reduce bed blocking in hospitals and will hopefully reduce the chance of a resident being readmitted to hospital.”
Bryony Campbell, Senior Services Manager at the Red Cross said ” It is great to be able to strengthen our links with Merlin Housing Society, enabling people to get the best possible choice and range of support when discharged from hospital”
Since it was launched in May 2011 more than 200 residents have used Merlin’s short term response service. If you think you’d benefit from the service call 01454 821220.
