Hundreds of people have experienced the joy of moving into a brand new Merlin home over the past 12 months, a year that has seen us build more homes than ever before.
Since last April we’ve built 186 new homes an increase of 42% on the number of homes we built the previous year. This has included our first ever homes in Gloucestershire at Rodborough Common and our first homes in North Somerset in Weston-Super-Mare. We’ve also completed the redevelopment of former older people’s housing into 25 new homes in Staple Hill and completed the remodelling of offices in our independent living schemes into new flats.
Head of Development Amanda Swann said: “It’s wonderful to think that 750 people now have somewhere amazing to call home thanks to the new homes we’ve built over the past year. We’re making a real difference to people’s lives and it’s always great to hear how happy people are in their new homes.
“But we know we can do even more. Over the past year we’ve also exchanged contracts with major developers to build more than 400 new homes in the coming years. And in the next 12 months our goal is to complete 320 new, affordable homes, providing somewhere to live to more than 1,200 people.”
Last year we announced plans to enter into partnership with Bromford, which will allow the combined housing association to build 14,000 new homes over the coming decade.
